Real Madrid to get the better of Lyon in Champions League

Published:

It would not be right if Real Madrid did not meet Lyon at some stage in the Champions League and the Spanish giants should have little trouble claiming victory when the pair clash in Group D this season.

The duo have met in the European competition in each of the last two seasons with mixed results, although while Lyon have arguably weakened of late, Real Madrid’s team has improved.

Real Madrid look short to triumph at 2/9, but 1/1 looks decent value that they win to nil, which would keep up their record of still not having conceded in the group thus far.

Lyon have posed problems for Real Madrid before and may be overpriced at 11/1 to claim a victory that would send them top of the group.

The other encounter in Group D is between the two bottom clubs and Dinamo Zagreb have the optimum opportunity to improve their shocking record with Ajax.

Zagreb have never beaten the Dutch side at home and have failed to score in these three fixtures.

However, with Ajax winless in their last four games in all competitions, Zagreb look a good Champions League bet at 13/8 to beat Ajax, especially as they lost a tight fixture 1-0 at home earlier in the group against Real Madrid.

In the Group B showdowns, a draw looks the most likely outcome as Inter Milan travel to Lille.

Lille are the draw specialists in this season’s competition, while Inter are winless in their last six meetings with French opposition.

It is 9/4 in the Champions League odds that the fixture ends all square, while consideration should be given to the 9/2 that Inter come from behind to either win or draw.

Finally, Trabzonspor might be the surprise leaders of Group B, but they are likely to fall to a defeat against CSKA Moscow, with the Russians 8/13 to triumph on their own patch.
