Man City favourites for Premier League after humiliating United

Manchester City’s stunning 6-1 annihilation of Manchester United has seen them installed as favourites to win the Premier League for the first time this season.

Their incredible win has seen Ladbrokes cut the odds on Roberto Mancini’s men winning a maiden Premier League title to 5/4 from a pre-match 13/8.

City were absolutely brilliant as they tore through a ragged United side that was reduced to ten men early in the second-half when Jonny Evans was dismissed for a pull on Mario Balotelli.

It’s difficult to imagine that having all 11 players on the pitch would have made much difference to the outcome though as David Silva and James Milner proved almost unstoppable in the City midfield, while Balotelli and substitute Edin Dzeko were also superb.

Needless to say, the result has seen Sir Alex Ferguson’s men move in the other direction and they have drifted from a pre-game position as 11/10 favourites to 7/4 behind City.

It was United’s heaviest home defeat since 1955 but, more worryingly, Sir Alex Ferguson’s side haven’t been in brilliant form for a few weeks now – their last really commanding performance was in their 5-0 win away to a poor Bolton side all the way back in September.

City are rightful favourites – for now – but it would take a brave punter to completely rule United out of the running after their first home league defeat in well over a year.

Whoever wins it though, it looks as though we’re in for a truly memorable Premier League season.
