Draw makes Colour Vision the each-way Cesarewitch bet
Keys looks the horse to beat in the Cesarewitch, but the importance of the draw cannot be understated and is the leading reason why Colour Vision may be the best each-way option at Newmarket.
The Cesarewitch is the ultimate stamina test on the Flat at 2m2f and with 36 runners set to line up, being able to hog the inside rail for the majority of the race could offer a distinct advantage.
This is especially true as close to a mile into the race there is a wide sweeping right-hand bend and horses drawn on the outside could effectively end up negotiating the turn extremely wide, clearly using up vital stamina.
In the past the higher-numbered stalls were positioned closest to the running rail and five of the last six winners had come from stalls 23 or higher.
However, there has been a switch at Newmarket to liven things up and now it is stall one that is nearest the inside and the draw all of the trainers wanted.
Sentry Duty got the luck of the draw to take stall one, but the fact he is yet to win in his three runs since changing from a career over hurdles to the Flat is a worry.
Although 14/1 is not a bad each-way price.
Keys is in stall 24, but may have a chance of getting close to the running rail towards the foot of the field as Richard Hughes will look to give him some cover.
However, the million dollar question is whether he will get near enough to the fence and then whether he can plot a successful route through the field in the latter stages.
If this happens, he is looks massively overpriced at 12/1 in the Newmarket odds to win the Cesarewitch.
Of the horses with the better draws, it is Colour Vision that looks the most likely to triumph at 20/1.
Colour Vision will run from stall six and agrees with many of the trends of recent Cesarewitch winners.
He has already won over a distance of 2m or greater which should prove his stamina, while he was also successful on his latest start.
The one obstacle he will need to overcome is that he has never previously triumphed in a race featuring more than 15 runners, with their certainly being a knack to hitting the front in a big field.
