Derby poses big test in Man Utd making it to Christmas unbeaten

Manchester United’s odds are 2/1 to remain unbeaten until Christmas in the Premier League this season and it is their two remaining games in October that may offer the most threat to whether this achievement will be completed.

Before the start of the campaign, the trip to Anfield to play Liverpool would have been earmarked as arguably their toughest challenge in the first half of the season.

However, Javier Hernandez’ equaliser ensured that their unbeaten record remains intact after eight games.

Next lies another big challenge, as they face rivals and current Premier League table-toppers Manchester City.

The good news for Manchester United is that the game is at Old Trafford and they have only lost once at home to their neighbours in the Premier League era.

Manchester United are 10/11 to beat Manchester City and a victory would potentially see Sir Alex Ferguson’s men shorten back to odds-on to win the Premier League title this season.

They are currently 1/1 after their draw at Liverpool, especially as Manchester City moved top with a home win over Aston Villa.

After Manchester City, Manchester United face a tricky trip to Everton and they have not won at Goodison Park in the last three seasons.

In total, Manchester United have nine Premier League fixtures before Christmas Day and although they should have little trouble avoiding defeat at Old Trafford, there are some other potential banana skins on the road.

Aside from Everton, the Red Devils also have to visit Aston Villa and Fulham.

The former of this may prove especially problematic as they arguably should of lost the corresponding fixture at Villa Park last season, when they scored two late goals to pinch an undeserved draw.

Manchester United are also 8/1 in the Premier League odds to remain unbeaten throughout the whole 38-game season, but the fact that they have away games with Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham to come, this seems unlikely.
