Watney to win Deutsche Bank and continue our fine golf tipping form

Dustin Johnson’s victory in The Barclays, the opening event of the FedEx Cup play-off series, was our second correct pick in four PGA Tour tournaments, after Adam Scott’s success last month at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
In this time we were also unfortunate to tip Webb Simpson a week too early, as he flopped at the USPGA Championship only to win the following week at the Wyndham Championship.
With only the top 70 players in the FedEx Cup standings in terms of points qualifying for the BMW Championship, the majority of players at the Deutsche Bank will be under pressure to ensure their spot.
Watney has no such worries as he currently sits third in the overall standings, helped by his two victories already this season and seven further top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour.
He may have never won a tournament in the FedEx Cup play-off series, but has a lot going for him heading to TPC Boston.
Watney arrives having finished in a share of 12th at the USPGA Championship and then tenth at The Barclays, which significantly included a bogey-free 64 over his closing 18 holes.
Low scoring is expected in Boston for the fifth straight year and Watney features in the top ten in the PGA Tour statistics in terms of birdies or better on par 3s, par 4s and par 5s, which are all ranked separately.
Furthermore, he ranks prominently in terms of his putting statistics and finding greens in regulation, which will both be welcome if the Deutsche Bank Championship turns into a bit of a shootout.
Watney’s is 20/1 in the golf odds to win the Deutsche Bank Championship and that looks a massive price for a player of his talent and consistency.
