Swindon vs Rotherham: Di Canio on verge of Swindon sacking

Published:

It’s unusual for Sky Sports to screen a League Two game live on a Saturday but it’s understandable why they’ve chosen Swindon’s clash with Rotherham.

Swindon were one of the pre-season favourites for the title and with Paolo Di Canio in charge, there was plenty of optimism around The County Ground.

However just one win in the league leaves Di Canio hanging on to his job by a thread and with table toppers Rotherham visiting the County Ground, Di Canio is in a precarious position.

Match Odds

Surprisingly Swindon, with three points from their opening five games, are the 11/8 favourites but there are plenty of reasons to be tempted by the 15/8 for a Rotherham win.

Rotherham have made a hugely impressive start to the season and currently sit top of the table on 13 points, having scored 12 goals in that time.

Swindon have only won one of their last 17 home games in all competitions and none of the Robins’ last 13 competitive games have ended in a draw which leaves Swindon staring at defeat.

Total goals

Rotherham may have lost Adam le Fondre but they are a very dangerous proposition and it’s clear by their 12 goals in five league games that the Swindon defence should be weary of the Rotherham attack.

It has been five years since the two sides last met and so previous form between these two isn’t the best thing to go on, but their head-to-head history suggests there are goals in this game.

19 goals in six matches between the two suggest the 8/11 for over 2.5 goals is a pretty safe bet.

Both teams to score is 8/13 but there have been three clean sheets in those six games and so a 3-0 Rotherham win is looking very tempting at 28/1.

Gareth Evans is the man to fill Le Fondre’s boots and at 7/1 to score first, looks the pick of the strikers.
