Serena and Ivanovic lead stellar betting line up at US Open

The draw doesn’t get any easier for Serena Williams at the US Open but such is her ability, the bookies don’t believe she can be beaten.

Today Serena takes on Ana Ivanovic today and the Serb is 12 rankings higher if the US Open seedings are to be believed.

However Serena is the very short 1/14 favourite to win and with a 2-0 advantage in the head-to-head stakes, it’s hard to oppose the American today.

Having conceded one game or less in five of the six sets she’s played at Flushing Meadows, Serena is looking strong for the title and her 2/5 price to win the tournament confirms that.

Elsewhere there are some much tighter betting games to be explored by punters and the one that stands out is Francesca Schiavone’s match with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

Pavlyuchenkova is the 4/6 favourite to win today but Schiavone has a 3-1 head-to-head record over the Russian and with wins at last year’s US Open and earlier in the year at the French Open under her belt, Schiavone looks the pick of the day at 11/10 to win.

Schiavone was the underdog for last year’s fourth round match in the US Open and history can repeat itself today, although three sets should be expected and Schiavone can be backed at 10/3 to win 2-1.

Andrea Petkovic may be ranked 65 places higher than her Spanish opponent Carlos Suarez Navarro today, but in their only career meeting the Spaniard won in straight sets at the 2010 Australian Open.

Both players have shown some strong hard court form but because of the prices, it’s worth opposing Petkovic at 1/6 today and backing Suarez Navarro at 7/2.

The final match of the day sees Caroline Wozniacki take on Svetlana Kuzetsova and the world number one offers plenty of value at 2/7.

Wozniacki has won all of her last three encounters with Kuznetsova, including in the final of the Dubai Duty Free earlier in the season and the world number one looks a solid bet today.
