QPR vs Aston Villa: Rangers strikers with great chance to shine

Published:

Aston Villa lost their unbeaten start to the season with defeat at home to Bolton in the League Cup in midweek, and Queens Park Rangers can make it consecutive losses for the Villans on Sunday.

Rangers have made a solid start to life in the Premier League but it was the manner of their victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers last Saturday that makes them an intriguing bet on Sunday.

Joey Barton’s arrival at Loftus Road has seemingly convinced his teammates that they belong in the Premier League and confidence in the camp is high ahead of Villa’s visit.

Match Odds

QPR are the slight favourites for Sunday’s game at 5/4 and considering there has never been an away win in the eight Premier League games between the two, history would suggest the market has been priced right.

However the last league meeting between the two was back in 1996 and the two sides have met twice in the League Cup since, with both sides sharing a win apiece.

However Villa are unbeaten in their last eight Premier League games and while an away win looks unlikely at 11/5, the draw is a big possibility at 9/4.

Total Goals

While Aston Villa are without a clean sheet in 22 league away trips, Joey Barton is yet to see his QPR side conceded a goal whilst he’s been on the pitch.

QPR are 2/1 to continue that clean sheet run with Barton in the side and 5/2 to win to nil.

After putting three past Villa’s neighbours Wolves last weekend, the side are in confident spirits in front of goal and Jay Bothroyd will be keen to open his Rangers account.

Bothroyd is one of three favourites at 7/1 to get the first goal alongside DJ Campbell and Gabriel Agbonlahor, and while Villa’s Agbonlahor has three goals in four matches, Campbell looks the best pick of the three.

A 2-0 win for QPR is available at 10/1 and Neil Warnock’s side can continue their strong start.
