Pick of the Pundits: Brighton should prepare for a Strident Force

Published:

Today’s Derek Hunniesett Memorial Maiden Stakes at Brighton was an intriguing race before we looked at the Racing Post naps challenge.

The 15:50 at Brighton may be an eight runner field, but the betting would suggest it’s a two horse race between Storming Bernard and Strident Force with the former available at 11/10 and the latter at 6/4.

Which is why it’s a surprise to see four naps for Strident Force today and just the one for Storming Bernard.

Chris Goulding of the Sunday Express, Paul Castles of the Birmingham Mail, Newmarket of the Racing Post and Glendale of The Scotsman have all napped Strident Force while Jeffrey Ross of the Glasgow Evening Times naps Storming Bernard.

Considering Ross is on a seven-nap losing streak and his naps this season have cost his followers £27.70 for a £1 stake, it’s fair to say we’re siding with Strident Force.

15:50 Brighton: Strident Force – 6/4

Following his debut in a competitive Class 3 at Ascot towards the end of July, there has been plenty of good vibes emanating out of Sir Michael Stoute’s stable about Strident Force.

This 7f trip looks the perfect distance for Strident Force based on his breeding and following a strong finish at Ascot, there are plenty who believe there is more to come.

This drop back to Class 4 gives Strident Force the perfect opportunity to open his account.

Storming Bernard has finished 2,2,3,2 and 4 in his five career starts and trainer Alan Bailey may have to wait for that elusive win again today.

A second place finish in a Class 2 maiden at York earlier in the month is certainly strong form, but his inability to win a race is negative and preference is for the progressive Strident Force over Storming Bernard.
