Pick of the Pundits: Alanza looks the bet of the day at Doncaster

Published:

Over the past few months whilst we’ve been doing the Pick of the Pundits feature, we’ve come to realise just who are the best men to follow.

Garry Owen of the Daily Record, RP Ratings of the Racing Post and Gary Nutting of the Sunday Mirror all know their stuff so when all three are agreeing on a nap today, it’s well worth a bet.

Six of the 50 tipsters in the Racing Post naps competition have napped Alanza in the 13:55 at Doncaster today, and the three above hold three of the top four positions in the table.

This Group 3 Sceptre Stakes will be contested by 11 filles and mares but in the eyes of the experts there is only one horse to follow and that is Alanza who is currently trading at 3/1.

13:55 Doncaster: Alanza – 3/1

John Oxx’s three-year-old is chasing a hat-trick today having won at Tipperary and Cork on her last two starts, and with three wins from five career starts, Alanza looks a top prospect.

Having been sent over from Ireland specifically for this race, you can be sure that Oxx and Alazi’s owner, the Aga Khan, believe this race is there for the taking and while they will be hoping to see the ground dry up, she’s well worth following today.

The last two renewals have both gone the way of the favourite and there have been four winning favourites in the last eight runnings.

It’s a race in which the younger fillies outperform their older rivals with eight winning three-year-olds in the last 10 years, and with seven of the last 10 winners priced at 4/1 or under, the top of the market is where to look.

Rimth looks a decent each-way prospect at 12/1 but today it’s all about Alanza.
