Our tips for day three of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster

Published:

Channel 4 returns today with its coverage of Doncaster’s St Leger Festival and Friday’s racing offers up a brilliant chance to start your weekend in profit.

The Doncaster Cup takes centre stage and all eyes will be on Opinion Poll having finished second behind Fame And Glory in the Ascot Gold Cup before winning the Goodwood Cup.

13:25 Doncaster: Angels Will Fall – 9/2

This Group 2 five-furlong sprint sees plenty of strong horses in contention and Irish challenger Requinto currently heads the market at 7/2.

The good-to-soft ground didn’t suit the favourite when finishing 13 of 15 in the Nunthorpe at York last time out, and while his previous form is solid, his fellow Irish challenger Lilbourne Lad looks a better pick having won over course and distance at 5/1.

But Lilbourne Lad carries at least three pounds more than anyone else and Angels Will Fall, who disappointed in the Lowther Stakes at York last time out deserves another chance here and she is our pick today.

13:55 Doncaster: Precision Break – 8/1

The last three winners of this race have all started at 10/1 or bigger but there are just four horses in this 11 runner field that are 10/1 or bigger so we’re siding with Precision Break at 8/1.

The six year-old has appeared just once this season and it wasn’t anything to write about, but he’s won all three of his starts at Doncaster and his only start over this distance that is a little longer than 1m6f.

14:25 Doncaster: Opinion Poll – 13/8

The big race of the day and all eyes are on the favourite as he chases a hat-trick of wins today.

While his last two wins have only been by short lengths, he was the only challenger to Fame And Glory at Ascot back in July and on the basis of the form he’s shown in the last three races, he’s our banker today.

Motrice is the danger but Opinion Poll’s class should prevail over this extended 2m2f distance.

15:00 Doncaster: Regal Realm – 9/4

The final televised race of the day can go the way of the horse whose trainer has landed seven wins from 16 runners in the last 14 days.

Regal Realm runs for the bang in form Jeremy Noseda yard and can be chased home by Samitar (13/2).
