Men’s accumulator: Tipsarevic and Verdasco can lead the upsets

Published:

Andy Murray was forced to come back from two sets down yesterday in order to reach the third round of the US Open and the Scot’s opponent, Robin Haase, proved the top seeds won’t have it all their own way.

Both Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer have potentially tricky ties today, but we fancy both players to advance easily.

Djokovic takes on Davydenko and in the six ties they’ve competed in, Davydenko has beaten Djokovic twice – the last coming in 2009.

However the Russian has dropped to number 39 in the world thanks to a poor run of form and Djokovic beat Davydenko in straight sets in Montreal earlier in the year and it shouldn’t be too difficult for the Serb.

Roger Federer take son Marin Cilic and while the Croat has the potential to upset the world number three, Federer has won both of their previous meetings in straight sets.

The other banker today looks to be Mardy Fish but outside of that there are some tough matches.

Tomas Berdych takes on Janko Tipsarevic and the Serb has beaten Berdych on both of their last two meetings, including a fortnight ago in Montreal, and so we fancy Tipsarevic at 6/4.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga may be the fans favourite but in Fernando Verdasco he faces an opponent whom he has never beaten.

Verdasco’s form hasn’t been great this year but the Spaniard will be buoyed by the fact he’s nect lost to Tsonga and we fancy another upset here with Verdasco 7/4.

Juan Carlos Ferrero looks the best bet of the day at 5/6 to beat Marcel Granollers considering he has never lost to him in three meetings, and Ivo Karlovic’s big serve can power past Alexandr Dolgopolov.

Tommy Haas has done well to get this far but his tournament should be ended by Juan Monaco.

Our eight selections return £40.88 for a £1 stake when combined in an accumulator.
