Man Utd out at 12/1 to go entire Premier League season undefeated

Manchester United’s fantastic start to the Premier League season has already seen them compared to some of the best teams of Sir Alex Ferguson’s career.

However, if they remain undefeated in the league then they will not only go down as Ferguson’s greatest team, but one of the greatest teams of all time.

Ladbrokes are currently offering a special market on United to go the entire Premier League season undefeated and have put them out at 12/1 to do just that.

Only two teams in the history of the English top flight have gone a league season without losing.

Preston North End managed it back in 1889 when they went 22 games without tasting defeat.

Arsenal were the last side to do it in 2003/04 when they went unbeaten for all of their 38 league games, running away with the Premier League title and finishing 11 points ahead of Chelsea in second place.

United have yet to really come close to an perfect season.

They managed to get through to last February without being defeated before succumbing 2-1 to Wolves at Molineux.

That loss was United’s first since their 2-1 defeat against Chelsea at Old Trafford the previous April and put an end to a great run that saw them go 29 Premier League games without failing to pick up at least a point.

It would take an incredible effort and a fair bit of luck for United to emulate Arsenal’s ‘Invincibles’ – the Gunners needed Ruud van Nistelrooy to hit the bar with a late penalty to avoid defeat early in the season at Old Trafford – but if any manager can get them over the line, it’s Ferguson.
