Irish St Leger: Fictional Account wants another slice of Fame And Glory
Published:Saturday’s racing sees both the St Leger and the Irish St Leger take place within 50 minutes of each other and while the St Leger is the final Classic of the season, it’s the Irish St Leger that is the more intriguing race.
In all honesty, none of the horses in the British St Leger can boast the same class as Fame And Glory and while he may be 4/6 to win at the Curragh on Saturday, his price will look very tempting to most punters.
Aidan O’Brien’s five-year-old will have to overturn the form though with Fictional Account in the race.
Fame And Glory’s three-race unbeaten run was brought to an end by Fictional Account in his last start despite being the 1/3 favourite.
It also happened to be at the Curragh and over the same 1m6f trip that the Irish St Leger will be run over on Saturday and so there will be plenty of punters backing Fictional Account each-way at 14/1.
Because of her mare status, Fictional Account is gaining 3lbs on Fame And Glory on Saturday and having beaten the favourite over the same trip at the same racecourse just three weeks ago, the 14/1 looks a big price.
Jukebox Jury (4/1), Duncan (5/1), Red Cadeaux (12/1) and Waydownsouth at 100/1 make up the rest of the field.
Duncan was well beaten by Fame And Glory in the Ascot Gold Cup and Red Cadeaux was well beaten by Opinion Poll (second in the Ascot Gold Cup) in the Goodwood Cup.
Jukebox Jury has shown some solid form this season but is stepping up in trip on Saturday and as he takes on Fame And Glory, it’s not the ideal time to have your stamina tested.
Fame And Glory should win on Saturday but it’s Fictional Account, who has the proven form, that looks the best bet for the Irish St Leger.
