England vs India: Intense England can make it a clean sweep

The scoreboard for India’s current tour of England reads England 5, India 0.

Following a whitewash in the Test series, England rubbed further salt into the wounds of the Indian side with victory in the one and only Twenty20 match on Thursday night.

On Saturday, Chester-le-Street will host the first of five one-day internationals between the two countries that will span the next two weeks, and England’s eyes are on a 10-0 whitewash come September 17.

A 5-0 series win for England is priced at 10/1 but before we get ahead of ourselves, we have to remember that India are the ODI champions.

Match Odds

However India also entered the Test series with England as the number one ranked Test team and there will be no England players lacking confidence for a match England are 4/6 to win.

India have lost six key players ahead of this series – Gautam Gamnhir, Virender Sehwag, Zaheer Khan, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh and Ishant Sharma – and a inexperience India side will be put to the sword by England on Saturday.

Chester-le-Street has only played host to one ODI between England and India and that finished in a n on result following some horrific weather, but luckily the forecast is a little brighter this weekend.

England have won their last three ODIs at Chester-le-Street and it’s a wicket that Ian Bell has previously thrived on making the 11/2 for Bell to be England’s top runscorer looking rather large.

Bell is 2/1 to get a 50 and on the basis of the Indian bowling attack that we’ve seen thus far, it’s highly likely he will do so.

Graeme Swann may miss the game due to a stomach bug but the Durham ground was the scene for his best ever ODI bowling figures and should he play, he looks a steal at 7/2 to be England’s top wicket-taker.
