Dustin Johnson a tasty bet heading into BMW Championship

The third event of the FedEx Cup takes place at Cog Hill this week and the field is every bit as impressive as you’d imagine.

World No.1 Luke Donald heads into the event as 12/1 favourite and based on his form over recent weeks – and the past year – it’s easy to see why.

The Englishman has lived up to his reputation as the most consistent player on the tour by finishing in the top ten in three of his last four starts – including a share of third at the Deutsche Bank.

However, he’s failed to convert his scoring average of under 68 shots during the play-offs into a victory and better value lies elsewhere.

Adam Scott is second favourite at 16/1 and is worth considering.

He’s had four top ten finishes in his last six starts and his win at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational has shown he can hit top form and handle the pressure in the biggest events on tour.

The player really worth keeping an eye on though is Dustin Johnson. The American has been in brilliant form these past few weeks and is defending champion on this demanding course.

At the Deutsche Bank he finished top of the table for both fairways hit and distance off the tee – a lethal combination that should have seen him finish higher than 42nd.

If he can find the form he showed on the greens in last year’s tournament then he’ll be extremely hard to beat at 16/1.

Further down in the betting, David Toms also catches the eye.

He’s finished in the top 25 in seven of his previous eight starts at Cog Hill and looks an excellent each-way punt at 66/1.
