Aston Villa vs Newcastle: Villa like winning fixture 1-0

Published:

Aston Villa have triumphed 1-0 in their last two home matches with Newcastle and there is every reason to suggest that the hat-trick will be completed this season.

Goals have been in short supply in games involving Newcastle so far this season, as their miserly defence has only conceded one goal in their opening four Premier League fixtures.

However, Villa have the firepower to find the target, with Darren Bent always a danger for defences and Gabby Agbonlahor showing signs of rediscovering his best form in the early stages of this season.

Meanwhile, Villa also look a better defensive unit under Alex McLeish and goalkeeper Shay Given will be keen to keep a clean sheet against one of his former clubs.

Aston Villa’s odds are 1/1 to beat Newcastle and they have lost just one of the last 12 Premier League games, while only Wolves have left Villa Park with three points since January.

Furthermore, the Midlands is not a happy hunting ground for Newcastle, as they have only won on one of their last seven visits to the region.

However, like Villa, Newcastle are still unbeaten this season and are opposition that McLeish has never beaten in the Premier League.

Newcastle may also be spurred on by the fact that their defeat at Villa Park on the final day of the 2008/09 season confirmed their relegation to the Championship.

It is 3/1 that Newcastle build on their strong start with a victory and 11/5 that the game ends all square, which would be a fourth draw already this season for Villa.

With Agbohlahor enjoying a new lease of life under McLeish, another promising bet could be the scorecast of him scoring and Villa winning 1-0, which is available at 25/1.
