Alanza and Bogart to confirm favourite tags at St Leger meeting

Published:

Favourite backers could enjoy a bright start on the second day of the St Leger meeting at Doncaster, with the market leaders looking good things in two of the opening three races.

13:25 Doncaster: Poetic Dancer – 10/1

The opening race is the one where the favourite may not oblige, as although Besito has solid claims, it is hard to look beyond the fact that she beat weak opposition on her only winning start to date.

Although the filly could be progressive and is highly thought of by trainer William Jarvis, she may not got her own way in front today.

One of those likely to come from off the pace is Poetic Dancer, who has stayed on strongly on her last two starts from poor draws.

The return to 6f will only help her chances and assuming that she finds a gap, she looks a good each-way price.

13:55 Doncaster: Alanza – 3/1

John Oxx has not sent a Flat horse over from Ireland all summer, so the fact he thinks Alanza is worthy of the trip certainly warrants respect.

Alanza has improved on all starts this season in Ireland and her blistering finish should be enough to see her land the spoils.

Rimth looks the each-way alternative as she can be forgiven for a disappointing display at Pontefract last time, when seemingly not taking to the course and getting caught wide.

14:25 Doncaster: Bogart – 11/4

Bogart looks a superstar in the making and comfortably beat a decent field last time at York, with some of those beaten following up with smart runs since.

He looks set to follow in the footsteps of Wootton Bassett who completed the same double last season.

Of the others, Top Cop and Cockney Dancer are both lightly raced and could step up on what they have shown so far to feature in the places.
