The Safety Net: Stepanek to beat lucky loser in Legg Mason Classic

Published:

Panathinaikos brought to end the latest triumphant run of the safety net bet last night, but jumping back on the winning bandwagon should be relatively straightforward today with Radek Stepanek in action at the Legg Mason Classic.

Despite scoring three times, Panathinaikos fell to a home defeat against OB Odense in the second leg of their Champions League third qualifying round fixture, causing them to be eliminated from the competition.

This rare defeat caused the bank balance of the safety net bet to slip back to £419, but Stepanek is expected to win his second round match in Washington today against Wayne Odesnik.

The safety net bet has never previously lost in successive days and Stepanek has every incentive to play well in the tournament as it is one of the final hard-court preparations ahead of the US Open later this month.

Odesnik has already been beaten in the tournament this year once, when losing his final qualifying match to Rajeev Ram in straight sets, who has since been emphatically beaten in the opening round of the Legg Mason Classic by Australian qualifier Matthew Ebden.

However, when number two seed Mardy Fish pulled out of the tournament just before its commencement, Odesnik was pulled out as a lucky loser.

Stepanek is ranked over 100 places ahead of Odesnik in the ATP Tour rankings and won their only previous meeting, which was a 7-6, 6-1 success on the hard courts of Brisbane last year.

It is 4/11 in the tennis betting that Stepanek beats Odesnik and we will be staking £55 on this result to fulfil our daily aim of making £20.
