The Safety Net: Banyan Tree to stop the rot at Stratford

Published:

The safety net bet has been left reeling in recent days because of back-to-back defeats, but it is hard not to see Banyan Tree landing the spoils in the horse racing at Stratford today.

Juan Martin del Potro’s straight sets defeat to Marin Cilic in the Rogers Cup in Montreal yesterday means that the bank balance of the safety net bet has fallen to £389.

We are in desperate need of returning to winning ways today and are relying on Banyan Tree to prevent a hat-trick of defeats.

Banyan Tree takes to the track in the 20:20 at Stratford and looks the clear class act in the Orchard Hill Novices’ Hurdle.

The booking of Tony McCoy is an obvious positive, with the 16-time champion jockey having won on board the horse on the only other occasion he has ridden him, at Worcester in July.

The fact that the horse previously ran on the Flat for Aiden O’Brien is another plus, particularly as he was seen as good enough to run in a Group One in France as a two-year-old.

Since his victory under McCoy’s ride, Banyan Tree finished a respectable fourth at the Galway Festival and a repeat of this performance would suffice at Stratford.

His chances are also boosted by the news that leading rival He’s Our Lad has been declared as a non runner.

Banyan Tree is 2/5 in the horse racing odds and we will be staking £50 on his victory to fulfil our daily aim of making £20.

Wealth warning: although we are confident the safety net bet’s strategy will be profitable over a period of time, the nature of sport means we cannot guarantee you will win every single time.
