Suarez to tussle with Rooney and Long for Golden Boot

Goals in Liverpool’s opening two games of the season have resulted in Luis Suarez being well backed to win the Premier League Golden Boot this season.

The Uruguayan recovered from missing a penalty to score Liverpool’s only goal in the 1-1 draw with Sunderland on the opening day and he followed up with an injury-time tap-in to confirm victory over Arsenal.

These goals have seen Suarez backed from 12/1 into 7/1 to be the Premier League top scorer and if he stays fit then he has to be considered a serious contender in this market.

Sergio Aguero is another of the seven players currently topping the scoring charts with two goals following his double over Swansea and he is the favourite in the Premier League odds to win the Golden Boot at 9/2.

However, with Manchester City effectively having four world-class strikers vying for one spot in attack, it is doubtful as to whether he will make enough appearances to score 20+ Premier League goals.

This is a problem that also concerns Edin Dzeko, who has netted in both of Manchester City’s opening Premier League victories over Swansea and Bolton.

Dzeko has been supported into 10/1 to win the Golden Boot and has proven in the past at Wolfsburg to have the capability of maintaining a hot streak throughout a whole season.

Wayne Rooney has two goals for Manchester United and perhaps seems the most likely Golden Boot winner at 6/1, but it is Shane Long who may offer the best value in the market at 50/1.

Long also has two goals and can look forward to facing easier opposition in the coming weeks after scoring against both Manchester United and Chelsea in his first two West Brom appearances since signing from Reading.
