Spurs still set to keep Modric, despite new Chelsea bid

Harry Redknapp is defiant that Luka Modric will be staying at Tottenham beyond the closing of the transfer window, despite the midfielder seemingly not being interested in playing for the club.

Modric has been linked with a move to Chelsea for much of the summer, with the Blues already believed to have had three offers rejected.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is adamant that Modric will not be leaving White Hart Lane and has indicated that any further offers will also be repelled.

Speculation is rife that Chelsea may be preparing a final £40m offer this summer, which will give Spurs something to think about given the current frame of mind of their playmaker.

This situation caused Modric to be left out Tottenham’s defeat at Manchester United, while he was ineffective for just over an hour in their 5-1 home thrashing by Manchester City before he was replaced.

Modric had initially asked to also be left out of this fixture before being told that he had to play and given the nature of his display, it may have given Levy a reason to cash in on arguably his most prized asset.

However, although not necessarily agreeing, Redknapp is convinced that Modric will not be leaving.

He said: “I don’t know if Chelsea have made a £40m offer, they deal with the chairman and the chairman’s stance all along has been that he’s not going to sell him.

“If he sells him now it’s going to leave us up the swanny with about three days to go. If you were going to sell him I’m sure he would have sold him three months ago.”

Tottenham are bottom of the Premier League table after losing their opening two games, but are 6/5 to claim their first victory of the campaign when travelling to Wolves next.
