Scott the forgotten man in WGC Bridgestone Invitational betting
Published:Much of the talk has been about Tiger Woods’ return to action ahead of the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, but his former caddie Steve Williams may have the last laugh as Adam Scott looks massively overpriced at 40/1 to win the PGA Tour event.
Woods only recently parted ways with Williams and now has Bryon Bell on his bag, but Williams has since joined forces with Adam Scott, who has the credentials to challenge towards the head of the leaderboard at Firestone Country Club.
Scott has previously performed with credit in the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, finishing in a share of ninth last year behind Hunter Mahan, and has also been in contention in some big events so far in 2011.
The Australian finished in a tie for second at the Masters and sixth in the WGC Cadillac Championship at Doral, while his recent third in the AT&T National shows that his current form is also strong.
One of the key challenges of the South Course at Firestone is finding the fairway off the tee, with the course being the longest par-70 venue on the PGA Tour calendar.
Luckily for Scott, he ranks in tenth spot in the PGA Tour statistics in terms of total driving, meaning that he combines the necessary length and accuracy to tame Firestone’s slender fairways.
The event brings together the best players from the world rankings, but it could turn into a bit of a grind with -10 being the average winning score across the last five years.
Steve Stricker has won two of his last four starts and perhaps brings the best form to Akron, Ohio, which will make him a popular bet in the golf odds for the WGC Bridgestone Invitational at 16/1.
Other American players worth considering at bigger prices are Rickie Fowler at 33/1 and Bill Haas at 50/1.
