QPR to continue spending with offer for brother of England star

Tony Fernandes has certainly wasted little time dipping his hand into his pocket to help QPR avoid Premier League relegation this season and Anton Ferdinand is the latest star set to be on his way to Loftus Road.

QPR’s intentions have already been signalled by the arrivals of Joey Barton and Luke Young, while Armand Traore’s capture from Arsenal will add some extra squad depth.

However, Fernandes seems far from finished in the transfer market before the closing of the transfer window and Sunderland defender Ferdinand is one name on his shortlist.

After falling out of favour under Steve Bruce last season, Ferdinand has taken advantage of some injury problems within the Sunderland squad during the current campaign.

But with John O’Shea, Titus Bramble and Michael Turner all close to regaining full fitness, Ferdinand may soon find himself back on the bench again.

Therefore, any offer from QPR may be accepted as Sunderland look to raise funds for a new striker and there is a chance that Ferdinand could leave for as little as £2m, particularly as he is in the final year of his contract at the Stadium of Light.

It was the foundations of a solid defence that helped QPR win the Championship last season, as they conceded just 32 goals in their 46 fixtures.

The Premier League experience of Ferdinand would help QPR in their quest to keep a stream of clean sheets again and potentially avoid an immediate relegation back to the Championship.

QPR are 6/4 in the Premier League odds to be relegated, but they can do their early chances of escaping the drop the world of good with victory over Newcastle in their next fixture.

QPR are 5/4 to beat Newcastle, which would be the first defeat that the Magpies have suffered this season.
