QPR on verge of buyout as press conference is called for Thursday
Published:Tony Fernandez looks set to become the new owner of Queens Park Rangers after the club confirmed a statement will be made regarding their ownership tomorrow morning.
Bernie Ecclestone is set to sell his controlling stake in QPR for around £118m to the AirAsia group executive which would see Fernandes take a 51 per cent stake in the club.
Ecclestone has owned the club for the past five years but is a self-confessed hater of football and has been looking to sell the club for some time now.
Fernandes and Ecclestone have been in talks for some time but it is believed tomorrow will be the day that the two confirm the sale of QPR, something the Hoops fans will be delighted about.
The current board has been reluctant to spend any money in this summer transfer window and Fernandes, the West Ham United fan, would be more willing to put his hand in his pocket.
Neil Warnock will be wondering what lies in store for his QPR future but Fernandes has already publically backed the Hoops manager and it seems Warnock will be given his chance.
QPR remain the 11/10 third favourites to be relegated behind Swansea (4/7) and Norwich (4/6), but should Fernandes splash the cash before the transfer window ends, that price will lengthen.
It is believed QPR are preparing an £8m bid for West Ham’s Scott Parker and he could be the first of a number of new faces that come in over the next two weeks.
Should Fernandes be unveiled as the new QPR owner tomorrow, he will not get a chance to be unveiled in front of a home crowd until September 12 when QPR play Newcastle.
Everton host QPR on Saturday and the Hoops are 11/2 to win, but following their opening day defeat to Bolton there will be plenty of punters opposing them and Fernandes has plenty to do to keep his side in the Premier League.
