Pick of the Pundits – Side Glance gaining Salisbury attention

Published:

With 43 of the 50 punters taking part in the Racing Post naps competition failing to tip a winner yesterday, the majority will be keen to ensure that their losing streaks are short lived today.

The race that has garnered the majority of the attention among the tipsters is the 16:15 at Salisbury, with seven of the competitors selecting their naps in the Group Three Sovereign Stakes over 1m, in which half of the 12 runners have already triumphed in Group company.

Side Glance is expected to go off favourite and is picked for times – by the Daily Mirror’s Newsboy, the Racing Post’s Postdata, Rockavon from the Sunday Mail and The Guardian.

The outcome of the race could largely be dependent on the early gallop and connections of Side Glance will be hoping that either The Rectifier or Julienas set a strong pace from the stalls.

This is something that Side Glance did not get last time when third behind Dick Turpin at Ascot and a victory for new owner Sheikh Fahad Al Thani could prove the springboard for runs in some big worldwide races for the remainder of the season.

Side Glance is 5/2 in the horse racing odds and the tipsters are expecting Premio Loco, Emerald Commander and Fanunalter to present the main dangers.

Premio Loco is a three-time Group Two winner at today’s trip and is another that would benefit from a strong early pace.

He can be backed at 6/1, which is the same price as Fanunalter, who has not been out of the first three all season and has finished ahead of Premio Loco and Side Glance in his last two starts.

Emerald Commander is 7/1 and is perhaps the leading chance of Godolphin’s three entrants on the back of a relatively comfortable success at Pontefract on his latest start.

Other dangers could be 2009 Sovereign Stakes winner Mac Love, although he will not be suited by the morning rain, which will be far more to the liking of Beacon Lodge.
