Pick of the Pundits: Sea Moon preferred over Seville and Namibian

While much of today’s focus at York will be on the Juddmonte International, the Great Voltigeur Stakes is the most intriguing race of the day.

Not only is the Voltigeur a great form guide for the St Leger – the final Classic of the season in September – it also features three top quality horses competing for the £90k winners prize.

While you can read out take on today’s race here, the pundits are going against out pick Seville (5/4) and opting for the highly thought of Sea Moon (7/2).

Karl Hedley of the Irish Field, Kevin Walsh of the Irish Post, Robin Goodfellow of the Daily Mail and Newmarket of the Racing Post are all firmly in the Sea Moon camp, while Alan Keyte of the Western Mail, Newsboy of the Daily Mirror and Spotlight of the Racing Post are in Seville’s camp.

The problem for fans of Seville is that only Keyte is providing a profitable return for his naps this year, and even that is minimal at £0.54.

Newsboy is costing punters £24.07 to the £1 for his naps this season while Spotlight is costing his followers £32.68 to the £1.

Compare that with the tipsters who have napped Sea Moon and Seville looks in trouble.

Hedley currently sits atop of the Racing Post naps competition with a return of £27.84 to the £1 while Walsh is returning £11.44 to the £1 and Goodfellow a small but positive £0.22 to the £1.

Of the four tipsters napping Sea Moon, only Newmarket is costing his followers money and Sir Michael Stoute’s horse is the pick of the pundits today.

There is only one nap for the other main challenger in today’s Voltigeur and considering Whistler of the Sunday Telegraph is lying third from bottom in the table with a return of -£53.54 to the £1, and on an 8-nap losing streak, he’s worth avoiding.
