Pick of the Pundits: Long Awaited is an ironic choice for the tipsters

Published:

Yesterday we witnessed an odds-on chance justify his six naps and we saw a potential Derby winner land the gamble at Sandown.

It was a great day for the pundits yesterday with 18 registering a winner and today the pick of the pundits looks to be Long Awaited in the 20:30 at Newmarket.

Rob Wright of The Times is awaiting a winning nap as it’s now been nine days without a victory, but Wright still sits fourth in the table and the form of the other two tipsters makes Long Awaited look like a winning pick.

Kevin Walsh of the Irish Post is storming back up the leader table with two winning naps in a row and is returning £13.54 for a £1 stake this year, and while Fortunatus of the Sheffield Star is providing a small loss this year, his win yesterday puts him in form.

20:30 Newmarket: Long Awaited – 7/4

It’s the final race of today’s Newmarket card and punters will be a long time waiting for this nap, but Roger Varian’s three-year-old looks a sprinter capable of big things.

This six furlong Class 4 Handicap will see 12 runners head to post and this drop back in class should be in Long Awaited’s favour.

The beaten favourite last time out, Long Awaited has been sent off as the favourite in his last three races and has only justified his odds once, but he has improved in each of those runs and he’s worth another chance today.

It’s a pretty open race for the places and it may be worth taking a punt on the bottom weight Rafaaf who will be blinkered for the first time at 20/1 while Rough Rock’s consistency makes him a big price at 10/1.
