Pick of the Pundits: Galiando galvanises support at Windsor

Published:

It’s not been easy for the pundits pick following a successful debut at Goodwood in June, but with his age allowance in this handicap, Galiando is in prime position to win today.

Four of the tipsters in the Racing Post naps competition have napped Jeremy Noseda’s three-year-old today and three can boast a positive return for their picks this season.

Gary Nutting of the Sunday Mirror is currently returning £14.78 for a £1 stake on his naps this season while Bob Watts of the Western Daily Press is returning £13.19 and Paul Castles of the Birmingham Mail is returning £6.79.

Considering only 11 of the 50 tipsters are proving profitable to follow this season, the three tipsters are in strong form and while following the Guardian’s tips haven’t proved profitable this year, they did find a winner yesterday.

19:50 Windsor: Galiando – 2/1

Following three starts at a mile, Galiando is making the step-up to 1m2f today and on the basis of his pedigree, he should relish the extra two furlongs today.

A win on his first start meant the handicapper had got hold of Galiando early and he could only finish third on his last start at Kempton 19 days ago despite starting the race as the 5/2 favourite.

However today Jeremy Noseda’s colt is officially rated the same mark as the three top weights, but because of his age, is 8lbs lighter than Round Won (16/1), Moynahan (11/1) and Willow Dancer (8/1).

The main danger looks to be Colinca’s Lad as the nine-year-old chases a fourth straight win, but all five of Colina’s Lad’s wins have come at Class 5 level and today’s Class 4 company should prove to strong.

Galiando should handle this company and trip with ease, but at 2/1 he’s pretty short and Ken’s Girl looks a huge price at 12/1 to bounce back from a poor performance in a Group 3 at Glorious Goodwood.
