Pick of the Pundits: Free World tops weights and naps

Published:

There were a massive 17 winning tipsters in the Racing Post naps competition yesterday and all 50 in the table will be hopeful of continuing their strong form today.

Despite their being just four race meetings across the country today there isn’t a stand-out pick among the tipsters in the competition with plenty of diversity found today.

Chris Goulding of the Sunday Express is looking for a sixth straight winning nap today and is going with Kazbow, a 7/2 shot in the 17:45 at Nottingham, but it’s Free World who interests us the most at Newton Abbot.

Karl Hedley of the Irish Field is currently second in the naps table and is napping Free World today, along with The Guardian who are looking for a third straight winner today.

16:15 Newton Abbot: Free World – 5/1

Ladbrokes make Free World favourite for today’s Class 4 Handicap Hurdle in spite of the fact he carries top weight today.

There’s a four-way battle at the top of the betting for this renewal with Englishtown, Monty’s Revenge and Snake Charmer all challenging Free World for favouritism.

Never has a horse carried top weight to victory in this race since it was first run in 2006 but Free World has real claims today considering he’s 18lb lower than his current mark over fences.

Having spent the past two seasons chasing Free World made a return to hurdles at the end of June, finishing fourth behind Teenage Kicks and so his hurdles rating is a lot lower than the form he has shown over fences.

Since then he has won a Class 3 handicap over fences at Stratford and while he carries top weight today, his mark makes him a very interesting proposition today.

He’s never won in six hurdle starts which is a worry and while the weight advantage is a positive, Monty’s Revenge looks a better proposition at 11/2.
