Nottm Forest vs West Ham: Home misery means Irons can take win

Published:

At this early stage of the season the Championship table wouldn’t suggest Sunday’s clash between West Ham United and Nottingham Forest could be a title decider.

But Sam Allardyce takes his side to Nottingham to face a Steve McClaren Nottingham Forest side that could well be the main rivals to West Ham’s title bid.

West Ham are the current 11/4 favourites for the Championship title with Forest available at a very big 22/1.

Match Odds

The two sides met in the FA Cup last January and West Ham ran out the 3-2 winners – their second consecutive 3-2 victory over Forest.

That second 3-2 win came back in 2004 and while it’s been seven years since the two met in the league, both of Forest’s two home games this season have been high-scoring draws and West Ham look decent value at 25/1 to win 3-2.

West Ham’s home form may be poor but on the road they have taken six points from two games and have scored five goals.

The Hammers are slight favourites at 6/4 to win on Sunday and they look the value bet in this game, although the draw (23/10) should be a worry considering Forest have drawn their last four home games.

Total Goals

Goals can be expected at the City Ground on Sunday and over 3.5 goals looks a solid bet at 12/5.

Carlton Cole is making his mark in the Championship with goals in West Ham’s last two games and the striker is 11/2 to open the scoring.

Lewis McGugan has three goals this season, two from the penalty spot, but considering there have been sendings off in four of the last six games at the City ground, the Forest midfielder looks a rival to Cole at 7/1 to get the first goal.

West Ham have scored before the 16th minute in four of their five games this season and so a West Ham half-time win/West Ham full-time win looks the best bet at 10/3.
