Nani’s last-gasp winner left the bookies reeling at Wembley, according to Ladbrokes.

The bookies were preparing to toast a penalty shoot-out with moments to go until United snatched victory to give favourite backers the first spoils of the new season.

West Ham’s surprise defeat to Cardiff has seen Sam Allardyce’s team eased to 5/1 second favourite’s to win the Championship behind Sven’s Leicester City (4/1 favs).

Missing United striker Hernandez is the even money favourite to top the Old Trafford goalscoring list this term, with Rooney at 6/4 and Wembley hero Nani a 14/1 chance.

David Williams of Ladbrokes said: “It was very nearly a brilliant afternoon. West Ham’s defeat and the Wembley draw would have been as good a day as we could have hoped for..

“But Nani’s goal was a shocker. It signalled a massive turnaround for the punters who were all over United and they’ve drawn first blood.”
