Mourinho reassures Real fans through letter on the club’s website

Jose Mourinho was rumoured to be on his way out of Real Madrid on Tuesday following a faux par from his spokesman, but the Portuguese has reaffirmed his commitment to Real Madrid.

“There is no way I’m leaving,” said Mourinho via a letter on the club’s website. “No way!”

“I also wish to apologise to Madridistas, and only to them, for my attitude in our last game.”

Mourinho’s antics in the aftermath of Barcelona’s 3-2 second leg Super Cup win at the Nou Camp saw the manager come under pressure from the Madrid papers, a section of the media that is usually biased towards Real and anti-Barcelona.

But the reporters turned on Mourinho who is yet to win the full backing of the Real Madrid supporters, board and media despite having taken control of the hot seat a year ago.

The Super Cup may be the Spanish equivalent of the Community Shield, but Mourinho’s Madrid once again failed to beat Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona and many feel the Super Cup sets the standard for the season.

Victory in the Cope del Rey brought Mourinho a bit of time but there are many in Spain who believe a trophyless season for Madrid would mean the end of the Special One’s reign.

Unlike his reign at Chelsea, Mourinho cannot count on the support of the fans to pull him through because he is yet to win them over, and the Portuguese may be feeling a little lonely in the Spanish capital at the moment.

It is believed that Mourinho is taking a stand against the board because he feels they are not backing him, but this has been an ongoing saga since Mourinho joined the club and the board continue to reinforce the view that they are behind their manager.

Mourinho’s stance could be a bid to reassert his power at Real Madrid, something he lost in the wake of the clash with Barcelona, but as both parties see their patience run thin it could be that Mourinho’s Real Madrid life is short lived.
