Money for Hernandez and not Aguero to be Premier League top scorer
Published:Javier Hernandez has been the focus of virtually all of the market support to be the Premier League’s top scorer this season.
Hernandez was a big 10/1 when the market first opened earlier this summer, but he has now been backed into a clear 6/1 favourite as another profitable season is expected at Manchester United.
Despite only starting 15 Premier League games in his debut season at Old Trafford and stepping off the bench in a further 12, Hernandez almost averaged a goal in every two fixtures thanks to his tally of 13.
Now that the Mexican striker is established in the Manchester United first team, he is expected to start far more often this season and if he maintains his goals-per-minute ratio from the last campaign, he should net a minimum of 20 goals.
In each of the last six Premier League seasons at least one Manchester United player has been among the top three scorers and Wayne Rooney is the other realistic candidate to find the net regularly for the Premier League champions.
Rooney began to recapture his best form towards the end of the last campaign and already has a 26-goal haul to his name in the 2009/10 Premier League season.
The England striker has also been supported into 9/1 from 10/1 in the Premier League odds for top goalscorer.
Elsewhere, Fernando Torres remains unmoved at 8/1 despite his goal for Chelsea against Aston Villa at the Asia Cup.
Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero has also been installed at 8/1 after sealing his big-money move to Manchester City from Atletico Madrid.
Aguero’s goal tally has been in double figures in the last four La Liga seasons and in three of these campaigns he has scored a minimum of 17 goals.
