Mancini’s ‘Romario’ slashed for golden boot in wake of debut

Carlos Tevez will be feeling a little unloved this morning as Manchester City have found a new star man in Sergio Aguero.

Roberto Mancini may not have looked a happy man following Manchester City’s 4-0 win over Swansea – on the basis of their first half performance he has every right to look dour – but the Italian could not have faulted his new arrival’s impact on the game.

Introduced into the game in the 59th minute, two minutes after Edin Dzeko had opened the scoring for Manchester City, it took Aguero just nine minutes to make his mark on English football, tapping home Micah Richards cross.

The Argentine then kept the ball in superbly to set-up David Silva’s goal and Manchester City’s third before completing the rout with a 25-yard strike that nestled low in the bottom corner, capping a superb debut.

Aguero is now 9/2 to finish as the Premier League’s top goalscorer and his impact on Monday night means he is now favoured ahead of Wayne Rooney (7/1), Javier Hernandez (8/1), Fernando Torres (9/1) and Luis Suarez (9/1).

Carlos Tevez remains available at 12/1 but while there is no doubt Manchester City’s captain is a great player, the Manchester City fans have a new star and it will be harder for Tevez to win back approval should he stay.

After the game Mancini compared Aguero to the Brazilian great Romario, and if the Italian’s judgement is to be trusted, the goals could just keep on flowing from Aguero.

Romario netted over 900 times in his career (he claims 1000) and while Aguero already has 126 to his name, it looks as if there are plenty more to come from the 23-year-old.

Aguero shone in a dour Argentina team in the Copa America and having confirmed that form last night, there’s nothing to suggest Aguero will fail in the Premier League.
