Liverpool striker rejects Leicester as Bolton and Blackburn up chase
Published:Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers are set to spend the next 48 hours battling over the signature of Liverpool striker David N’Gog.
The Bolton board have been in talks with Liverpool over the past couple of weeks as Owen Coyle looks to strengthen his attacking options, but Blackburn and Leicester are putting up resistance.
Leicester have made a move for the 22-year-old but N’Gog has rejected the chance to move to the Championship because he wants to remain in the Premier League.
Having seen his side score just twice in their opening three games, Steve Kean is keen to strengthen his strike force and needs to if he is to convince punters Blackburn aren’t a good bet for relegation.
Rovers are yet to win this season and are now the 11/10 third favourites behing Swansea and Norwich for relegation.
Kean knows his side have to improve and he will be spending the next 48 hours working incredibly hard to strengthen a squad that look certain to be involved in a relegation fight.
Which is why Bolton still hold the better hopes of landing N’Gog, although they need to reach an agreement with Liverpool quickly if they are to do so.
It is believed a bid in the region of £4m will tempt Liverpool in to letting N’Gog leave and with a move for Craig Bellamy looking increasingly likely, Kenny Dalglish has a back-up option in place.
N’gog has managed just 19 goals in 94 appearances for Liverpool and punters are yet to be convinced by his scoring prowess.
However N’gog has impressed in his sporadic spells in the first team at Liverpool and given a consistent first-team role, the Frenchman should increase his goals to games ratio.
