Liverpool eye two final signings, including striker return

Liverpool are eager to bring in two new faces before the closing of the transfer window, with Craig Bellamy one of the names linked with a return to Anfield.

Bellamy left Liverpool for West Ham in 2007, with the writing virtually on the wall after he attacked then-teammate John Arne Riise with a golf club during a trip to Portugal.

However, with Liverpool looking short of depth in attack as they attempt to challenge for a spot in the top four this season, a return may be on the cards for the Welsh international.

Andy Carroll has been known to be slightly injury prone in the past, while it may also prove vital not to over-rely on Luis Suarez, with Dirk Kuyt and David N’Gog the only other recognised strikers in the squad.

And both have also been linked with Liverpool exits in recent days.

After being frozen out at Manchester City, Bellamy has been linked with numerous clubs this summer, but to date there has been a reluctance to meet his extortionate wage demands.

Bellamy is thought to be on £95,000 a week at Manchester City, which Liverpool would be prepared to pay, but only if they can sign him on a free transfer.

The 32-year-old not only has vast Premier League experience, but also a solid Champions League pedigree and could prove a useful addition to a Liverpool team competing for four trophies this season.

With Sotirios Kyrgiakos leaving for Wolfsburg, another defender is also on the Liverpool wishlist, with Uruguay’s Sebastian Coates thought to be the number one target.

The 20-year-old was named best young player at this summer’s Copa America and has also interested the likes of Arsenal, FC Porto and Sao Paolo.

However, with fellow countryman Suarez already at Liverpool, this could tip the balance in their favour.

Liverpool’s odds are now 8/11 to finish in the top four and 11/1 to win the title.
