Johnson to secure first 2011 victory at The Barclays

Dustin Johnson may still be awaiting a first victory of the season on the PGA Tour, but 33/1 looks a huge price that he ends this winless streak in The Barclays.

Johnson has not been in the best of form of late and this is arguably the reason for his hefty price, but he has a knack of discovering his best game at the big events.

The Barclays represents the first of the four events that make up the FedEx Cup Playoffs and Johnson is a previous winner under this sort of pressure through his victory in the BMW Championship last September.

Only the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup rankings through the points they have accrued throughout the season are permitted to play in The Barclays, meaning that Johnson faces plenty of stiff opposition.

However, his extra length off the tee may prove a massive advantage at Plainfield Country Club, particularly as the course is not the longest on the PGA Tour.

Therefore, Johnson may be able to benefit from hitting numerous irons off the tee to improve accuracy or have plenty of makeable birdie opportunities if using his driver through being able to hit a wedge into many of the greens.

Although, the 27-year-old is without a 2011 victory, he has achieved four top-five finishes and his position on the final leaderboard will largely be based on the strength of his putting, which can be a bit hit and miss.

Johnson does rank second in birdie average on the PGA Tour this year and fourth in terms of birdies or better on par 4s.

Another critical statistic is that he ranks 19th in finding greens in regulation, which may be valuable as the New Jersey course is littered with problematic bunkers to punish inaccuracy.

Of the players at bigger prices, Brian Gay may be worthy of consideration at 150/1, as he is not only recognised for his driving accuracy and putting skills, but also ranks top on the PGA Tour this season in terms of sand saves.
