Blackburn set to launch audacious bid for Real Madrid legend Raul

Blackburn Rovers’ hopes of Premier League survival could be given a huge boost if they are successful in an ambitious bid for Raul.

The former Real Madrid striker is going through a tough spell at Schalke and was accused of having his mind elsewhere in their opening 3-0 defeat against Stuttgart last week. He followed that up by failing to celebrate after bagging the fourth goal in his side’s 4-0 win against Cologne on Saturday.

Prior to the Cologne game, Schalke coach Ralf Rangnick gave a lukewarm defence of Raul that failed to dampen rumours of a rift between the two.

He said: “I don’t get the impression that he is being lazy. He’s acting perfectly normally,” he said.

“He’s having the same problems as last year. That he drops back into midfield.

“It is not necessary, but it’s part of his game.”

The Daily Mail reckons Rovers are preparing a bid and that there is a very real possibility of a deal going through.

Meanwhile, Blackburn’s odds on being relegated have come in to 2/1 following their poor opening day performance against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They lost at home against Mick McCarthy’s side despite going 1-0 up through a Mauro Formica strike. They spent a turgid 90 minutes failing to impose themselves on a side that had the second worst away record in the Premier League last term.

Blackburn need to add some quality to their squad otherwise the 2/1 for them to be relegated could start to look very tempting.
