Bayern Munich v FC Zurich: Germans will battle to first-leg lead

Bayern Munich boss Jupp Heynckes knows his side will have their work cut out to make the Champions League proper against FC Zurich – and he’s right.

The German outfit head into their first-leg qualifying game against FC Zurich this evening as huge 1/5 favourites, but it won’t be quite as straightforward as the odds suggest.

As Arsenal showed against Udinese last night, these first leg games tend to be nervy affairs with the home side just as concerned about not conceding as finding the net themselves.

And Heynckes knows all about the problems Zurich can give his side.

He said: “We know this is a challenge for us. We are aware of the importance of this game and the demand to reach the group stages.

“We are up against a creative and strong opponent who will not go into hiding against us.”

Bayern have not enjoyed the best of starts to their season, winning one and losing one of their opening two league games, while only scoring a single goal in the process.

Zurich meanwhile have won their previous two games and stuck six goals on Grasshopper in a 6-0 demolition.

Bayern are in a different class though and welcome back Arjen Robben who missed their 1-0 Bundesliga win against Wolfsburg through a back problem.

Bayern should have enough to come away with a win but backing a tight 1-0 win for the Germans at 9/1 could provide a very tidy pay out.
