Arsenal 16/1 for Premier League title following defeat to Liverpool
Liverpool have been cut into 10/1 for the Premier League title following victory over Arsenal at the Emirates today.
A scrappy affair was turned in Liverpool’s favour by the red card to Emmanuel Frimpong with 20 minutes to go, and the introductions of Luis Suarez and Raul Meireles was enough to unlock the Arsenal defence.
An own goal from Aaron Ramsey and a last minute strike from Suarez handed Liverpool the three points and they take an early advantage in the race for fourth spot with Arsenal.
For Arsenal, a team depleted by injuries and suspensions, it didn’t make for great viewing.
Having opened at 7/1 to win the Premier League title, the Gunners are now a huge 16/1 having been 12/1 before the start of the Liverpool game.
Frimpong was one of the few Arsenal success stories toda red card, rightly given by referee Martin Atkinson, means Arsene Wenger is now seriously short of midfielders for the trip to Old Trafford next Sunday and it could be a game that decides the Arsenal manager’s fate.
Wenger is now 7/1 joint third favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave, and with two huge games in the next six days, Wenger has his work cut out.
Arsenal take a slender 1-0 lead to Udinese on Wednesday and they still have plenty of work to do against a side that lost just four home games last season.
Udinese are the 6/5 favourites to win next week and should they do comfortably and go through, Wenger will find it tough to attract players to a side not playing Champions League football this season.
Couple that with defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford next Sunday and there will be plenty of Arsenal fans hoping Wenger gets presented with his P45.
Considering the Arsenal manager has held the respect of the Arsenal fans for so long, he will be feeling the pressure that he is under at the moment and the Frenchman will know this is a huge six days in his Arsenal career.
Gone are the days of unbeaten seasons and this season a scrap for fourth place looks the best Arsenal can hope for.
