Tottenham ready to cash in on PSG’s move for QPR star

Queens Park Rangers have received a bid believed to be in the region of £13.5m for Adel Taarabt.

Last season’s player of the year in the Championship has attracted interest from Real Madrid, but it is Paris St Germain who have tabled the concrete offer for the attacker.

Taarabt’s stock has risen since leaving Tottenham Hotspur for QPR in 2009, but it is the North London club who are set to prosper from any deal for the Moroccan.

Spurs will be owed 40 per cent of any fee QPR receive for Taarabt after agreeing a sell-on clause when the Moroccan moved across London, leaving QPR with £8.1m and Spurs with £5.4m of the £13.5m fee.

Harry Redknapp will take everything he can at the moment as he looks to strengthen his squad on a minimal budget, and the £5.4m will go towards signing a new striker.

There are reports in today’s papers suggesting Jermaine Defoe could be sold to fund deals for Giuseppe Rossi or Fernando Llorente, but Redknapp will not want to lose a striker who is capable of getting 20 goals a season.

Instead the Spurs manager will want to use the proceeds from Taarabt’s sale coupled with any funds Daniel Levy can spare to fund moves for a new striker.

Rossi had been linked with a move to Barcelona until Alexis Sanchez declared his ambitions to join the Catalan club and the Villarreal striker would be willing to move back to the Premier League.

Llorente would also consider a move away from La Liga after Real Madrid’s interest in the Atheltic Bilbao striker cooled.

Both players would command transfer fees in the region of £25m but either would enhance the Tottenham squad as they look to regain their place in the Champions League next season.
