Ryan Moore fancied to land top jockey title at Glorious Goodwood
Published:When it comes to the top jockey title this season it seems it’s a two horse race between Ryan Moore and Richard Hughes.
Moore denied Hughes the title of top jockey at Royal Ascot despite both jockeys claiming three winners at the meeting, and there has been hardly anything separating them all season.
Hughes may have an 18 per cent strike rate this season thanks to 62 winners from 351 rides, but it is Moore who can boast the biggest strike rate in the British Flat jockeys championship with 20 per cent this season.
80 winners from 403 rides leaves him just five short of Paul Hanagan at the top of the table, but considering Hanagan has rode 170 more rides then it’s easy to see why Moore is the fans favourite.
At Glorious Goodwod this week Moore is the 5/4 shot to win the top jockeys title and with Modum and Fiorente in the first two races on Tuesday, Moore has a great chance of getting off to a flyer.
Hughes is a 13/8 chance to claim the top jockey title and in Strong Suit and Crown Dependency, he also has a strong book of rides on Tuesday.
In Canford Cliffs many believe Hughes has a certain winner in Wednesday’s Sussex Stakes but there will be plenty in the Frankel camp willing to oppose that view.
In Arch Fire, Labarinto, Tuscania, Western Aristocat and ither Misty For Me or Snow Fairy, Moore has a very strong book of rides at Glorious Goodwood.
Hughes romped away with the top jockey title at last year’s Glorious Goodwood meeting with an incredible nine winners – a feat he will struggle to repeat this year – but his pedigree at the West Sussex course has to be respected.
Aside from the top two, Frankie Dettori has rode plenty of winners at Glorious Goodwood and is a 10/1 chance, but it truth it’s a straight battle between Moore and Hughes.
