QPR hopeful of bringing England striker back to Loftus Road
Published:QPR boss Neil Warnock is reportedly keen to take Peter Crouch back to QPR in a move that Tottenham are fairly receptive to, according to the Sunday People.
The Hoops have already signed Jay Bothroyd and taken Danny Webber on trial but evidently wish to add someone more proven in the top-flight and have supposedly identified the England international as that man.
The 30-year-old’s Spurs’ future is the subject of plenty of speculation after he scored just four Premier League goals last season, with the Lilywhites known to be in the market for a more high-profile forward this summer.
Crouch joined QPR the last time he was let go by Tottenham as a youngster in 2000 and spent a year there before heading to Portsmouth, and his apparent desire to stay in London if Spurs let him go has sparked talk of a reunion.
It is thought that the Championship winners would have to pay around £6 million to land the 42-time Three Lions front man, a significant sum given his age and failure to ever score more than 12 goals in a Premier League campaign.
QPR are currently strongly fancied to stay up at 4/11, however that price could change dramatically if Warnock’s fears that star man and skipper Adel Taarabt will leave in this window are realised, with PSG interested.
For Tottenham meanwhile, Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor is said to be their primary attacking target at the moment, yet they will face competition from Real Madrid to capture the former Arsenal man.
Giuseppe Rossi, Diego Forlan and Asamoah Gyan have also been linked with a transfer to White Hart Lane as Harry Redknapp bids to guide them back into the Champions League, with odds of 11/4 offered on a top-four finish.
