Pick of the Pundits – Piece By Piece it comes together for punters

There was a bit of joy to be found by the writers in the Racing Post naps competition following a few meagre days in which winners were hard to come by.

Only a fifth of the 50 writers competing found a winner but times are on the up for the tipsters and one man certainly worth following is Chris Goulding of the Sunday Express.

Yesterday Dixie’s Dream became Goulding’s fourth consecutive winner and as the man who heads the top of the Racing Post naps challenge, his opinions are worth listening to.

This month Goulding’s naps are returning £6.02 for a £1 stake and over the year punters are getting £20.71 for the pound by following Goulding.

Today he naps Naxox in the 7.30 at Worcester and with champion jockey A P McCoy on board, punters can back Goulding’s nap at 8/11, however we are focusing on another horse napped by three tipsters.

Tim Easterby’s Piece By Piece dominates the betting for today’s four runner Class 5 auction stakes at Catterick and Alan Keyte of the Western Mail, Downsman of the Sussex Express and Ebor of the York Press are all convinced he will win.

The two-year-old has just two career starts to his name but won his opening race at Ripon and finished second by a neck to the 6/4 favourite on his last start at Newcastle in June – form that was enhanced by third place Kenny Powers running strongly in the July Stakes last week.

On the basis of that form you have to say he has an excellent chance of winning this, but today’s rival Judas Jo represents a real danger to Piece by Piece and he may be overpriced at 3/1.

Gay Kellaway’s two-year-old filly finished ninth in the Group 3 Albany Stakes at Royal Ascot on her last start, but won her opening race comfortably at Catterick back in May.

Piece By Piece looks a little short at 4/7 and while he may romp home, I wouldn’t be backing it at that price.
