Men’s final – New number one the value Wimbledon bet

Published:

A coin toss may be the only real way of picking a winner between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the men’s Wimbledon final because the result is so tough to call and therefore the Serbian certainly offers the best betting value to secure victory at 11/8.

Djokovic produced a masterclass of turning defence into attack at the drop of a hat to beat in-form Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the semi finals and will now be looking forward to a first Wimbledon final.

Meanwhile, he heads into his clash with Nadal guaranteed to be the new number one in the world based primarily on the fact that he has still only lost one tennis match all year, a semi final to Roger Federer at the French Open.

What is also noteworthy about this unbelievable run is that he has already beaten Nadal in four finals this year, including twice on clay, which is largely considered Nadal’s best surface.

However, as good as Nadal is on clay, he is certainly equally as impressive on grass, particularly at Wimbledon where he has only lost twice since 2005 and both of these defeats have been in finals against Roger Federer.

Nadal will also have the advantage of knowing the pressure of a Wimbledon final and he is 8/13 to extend Djokovic’s wait for a first Wimbledon title and a first on any surface aside from a hard court.

The left-hander has already shown that he has no problem upsetting dreams after his semi-final success over British hope Andy Murray.

Somewhat surprisingly for two players so evenly matched, they have never gone into a fifth set in any of their previous 27 meetings, while a large portion of these showdowns have been won in straight sets.

It is 9/4 in the Wimbledon odds that this year’s final is settled in five sets, while it is 7/4 that one of the pair win 3-0.
