Mancini preparing offer as De Rossi stalls on contract talks

Contract rebel Daniele De Rossi has put Manchester City on high alert with his latest refusal to sign a new contract.

The Roma midfielder has been linked with Manchester United and Chelsea already this summer, but it seems the wage packet that Manchester City can offer him will be the reason he’s tempted to the blue side of Manchester.

Despite earning the love of the Roma fans in his 10-year stint at the club – only Francesco Totti commands more respect at the club – De Rossi’s recent personal struggles in Italy seem to be the reason why he wants a fresh start.

In May Roma were hoping to tempt Manchester United into bidding £19m for the Italian international but reports suggests Manchester City are willing to go as high as £25m for De Rossi.

This is along with the huge wage packet they are prepared to pay the 27-year-old with figures from £5.3m a year to £7.9m a year reported.

De Rossi is currently on £3.5m a year in wages at Roma but only has a year left to run on his contract, and having joined the club at youth level, any profit Roma make on the sale of De Rossi would be a bonus.

He may never have won Serie A with Roma but De Rossi’s experience would be a huge benefit to Manchester City in their bid to win their first Premier League title, and he would form a formidable partnership with Nigel de Jong and Yaya Toure.

With Michael Essien consigned to the sidelines for the next six months, Chelsea will be monitoring the De Rossi situation and Manchester City may not get things their own way even if they can offer huge wages.

De Rossi’s contract saga has been going on for a long time and the longer it draws on, the more likely De Rossi leaving is.
