Man City on high alert following Aguero’s comments
Sergio Aguero has become the star of Argentina following his brace against Costa Rica that booked a spot in the Copa America semi-finals.
Following two dour draws with Colombia and Bolivia, Argentina had to win against Costa Rica or they faced an embarrassing early exit from the competition.
Aguero took centre stage as Argentina waltzed past Costa Rica in front of their home crowd, and the striker has put himself back on the radar of Europe’s top clubs.
Ahead of tonight’s game with Uruguay Aguero was asked about his future following his comments about leaving Atletico Madrid and Manchester City are now one of the clubs favoured to land the 23-year-old.
“I will seek the best for me, I know that my representatives are working and for now I don’t want to think about it,” said the 23-year-old.
“I will do something after the Copa America, when I am able to think calmly, but if I said I saw myself at Atletico, I’d be lying.
“I’d prefer to play in Spain or England, those are the two best countries.’
Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea look like the only two clubs that could afford Aguero, but Andre Villas-Boas is yet to confirm his interest in the Argentine.
Aguero was strongly linked with a move to Chelsea in January but Carlo Ancelotti was in charge then and it is not known if Villas-Boas favours Aguero, leaving Manchester City and Real Madrid as the two likely suitors.
Jose Mourinho has already confirmed he is in the market for a new striker despite the wealth of attacking talent available to him, but Aguero’s links with Atletico Madrid make it a political transfer.
Manchester City look in a strong position to land the Argentine and we could well be seeing Aguero ply his trade in the Premier League next season.
Argentina are 8/13 to beat Uruguay tonight and Aguero will be looking to add to his three goals in the tournament to send his side through to the semi-finals.
