Goodwood finale offers brilliant racing and even better odds

The final day at Glorious Goodwood is always a thrilling occasion and today promises to be no different.

Here’s a quick look at the televised races to get us on our way…

2.05 Stewards’ Sprint Stakes

The day gets underway with what promises to be an extremely tight race.

Leonna Mayor will be the mix on the 12/1 Thunderball who is on a hat-trick following wins at Pontefract and Kempton Park.

However, Mac Gille Eoin was brilliant at Epsom last month and has won over this course and distance. Backing the John Gallagher trained horse to win at 16/1 looks the bet to take on.

2.35 Summer Stakes

Verdant heads into this race as the 6/1 favourite but is carrying top weight and this is the first time he’s contested a handicap since winning at the meet last year.

Meanwhile, Investissement has been raced lightly and, with a win over the course and distance already this year, the gelding looks a very tempting proposition at 12/1.

3.10 Nassau Stakes

There’s no escaping the fact that Midday is the horse to beat in the Nassau Stakes.

Having won the race the previous two years the Sir Henry Cecil trained horse is rightly the 6/4 favourite having run brilliantly over the distance this past year.

3.45 Stewards’ Cup

Hoof It is the overwhelming favourite at 7/1 in this race and it’s hard to look beyond him.

No horse younger than four or older than six has won the race since three-year-old Danetime won in 1997 and the four-year-old Hoof It should make sure that trend continues.

He’ll be carrying an extra 6lbs but he’s performed well over the distance and, with Kieren Fallon on top, he should prevail to make 80-year-old Mick Easterby the oldest trainer to saddle a winner in the race.
