Blackburn chase Brazilian striker in search for marquee signing

A marquee signing is potentially what Blackburn need to bring other big names to the club and Luis Fabiano is the player that could fit this criteria as he attempts to get his career back on track.

Juan Roman Riquelme and Ronaldinho are perhaps the biggest names linked with Blackburn in the past, although it never really looked likely that these deals would be finalised.

However, Fabiano’s career has stalled in the last 12 months and a chance to resurrect himself in the Premier League could be exactly what is required for the 30-year-old.

Fabiano led the Brazil attack at the last World Cup, scoring three goals and afterwards was on the shortlists of the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham and Juventus.

But these transfers failed to materialise and Fabiano was instead shipped back to his homeland and joined Sao Paolo.

Injuries have largely prevented this move being a success, but Fabiano’s scoring prowess has been clearly visible during his career and £6m may be a risk worth taking for Blackburn as they look to move up a level in the Premier League.

Blackburn only narrowly avoided Premier League relegation on the final day of last season, but manager Steve Kean has high hopes for the future, including breaking into the Champions League in the next five years.

It is 3/1 in the Premier League odds that Blackburn are relegated next season and a failure to improve their squad would leave them at risk again.

Blackburn’s odds are 1/5 to stay up and a proven goalscorer is something that has been missing from their ranks since Roque Santa Cruz enjoyed a prominent campaign in 2008.

If Blackburn fail in their efforts to lure former Seville striker Fabiano to England then they may turn their attentions to Robbie Keane, who is a target of a number of Premier League clubs.
